Magnesium Oil Massage: I am the L.M.T. who uses a combination of aloe, magnesium oil (mag chloride) coconut oil, or jojoba oil in many of my massage sessions.  In fact, Ancient Minerals, has a massage product with those three ingrediants in it.  It is at www.ancient-minerals.com  My email address is:  RNOiLCouple2@yahoo.com
You can also call them at 800-257-3315, and ask for Jennifer Veon, L.M.T.  You can also reach them at www.magneticclay.com  If you were referred by this site, or Jeff Kaplan, you may call the 800# for more personalized service.  Jennifer will be able to answer any questions you might have. I may also have magnesium oil in stock, so you can purchase it directly from me.  You can reach me at 239-910-8045, or email at RNOiLCouple2@yahoo.com
Wikipedia has grossly exaggerated the side effects of magnesium overdose.  The pharmaceutical cartel may have influenced their write up. Instead of emphasizing its importance, they may have overemphasized the possible side effects, and they are possible.   You can get too much water, and you can get too much sunshine (rare), and you can get too much food.  It is even possible to get too much oxygen, and build up an inordinate level of super oxide free radicals which the body cannot overcome with enough anti-oxidants.  Normally, most people don't overdose on oxygen-they don't get enough.  Most people don't overdose on water-they don't get enough.  The reality is, most people also don't overdose on magnesium-they simply don't get enough-even with all their oral supplementation of the mineral.  Too much food?  No question.  Its just the wrong kind, as you know.
The vast majority of the population is extremely deficient in magnesium.  It is involved in over 300 different functions of the body.  Dr. Marc Sircus, Ac., O.M.D., the author of "Transdermal Magnesium Therapy", said that it is the most important mineral in the body, and third in importance to oxygen and water.  It is the main mineral in green plants,  so consequently it is the mineral of sunlight, since it is heavily involved in photosynthesis.
Suffice to say, calcium and potassium cannot even be metabolized without sufficient magnesium.  You can find out more by going to www.magnesiumforlife.com
There is also a book called, "The Miracle of Magnesium" by Carolyn Dean, M.D. that bears down on the vast importance of the mineral magnesium.
Both authors emphasize that IV and transdermal application are the superior delivery methods for getting this mineral built up to adequate levels in the body.
Wikipedia is not anywhere near as reliable a source, as Encyclopedia Britannica.
As you suspect, i am of the strong feeling that Wikipedia is indeed influenced by western medicine.  The reference entry you quote from Wikipedia reeks of pharmaceutical influence.
I have read about the side effects of magnesium in Dr. Sircus's book. He spends several pages on that subject.
Dr. Sircus also emphasizes that magnesium chloride is the most bioavailable form of magnesium there is.  Magnesium Oxide may be bioavailable as well, but it causes massive bowel evacuation, and diarrhea, as does the citrate form.
The drugs that pharmaceutical companies manufacture and doctors prescribe, to take the place of magnesium, are far worse, than any essential mineral like magnesium.
"Take the place of magnesium" is not really accurate, because doctors as a whole, IGNORE it.  This is a relatively cheap mineral that can correct a myriad of physical (and mental) conditions of the body.  Drug companies cannot patent magnesium. Doctors learn about pharmacology in medical school to treat diseases-not nutrition.  When they graduate, they are nutritionally illiterate.  What doctors learn about nutrition in med school is a joke, and consequently, they lean on "studies" to get their information.  Studies that are financed by you know who-drug companies.
The possibility of going into a coma from too much magnesium, is extremely remote.  In the real world, I seriously doubt if that has ever occurred, although theoretically, it is possible, because of its ability to relax the muscles, and CNS.  I believe that since mag is a natural substance, a vital mineral needed by the body, to carry on many functions, it would take a long time to reach the point of overdose.  If it did, the kidneys would excrete the excess before an adverse event, such as a coma could take place.
On the other hand, drugs can and do cause comas.  That is undisputable.  You can look up several drugs that slow CNS response, eg tranquilizers, hypnotics, anti-depressants, etc., in any PDR, and see that that is so. The body, specifically the liver and kidneys, can metabolize magnesium and remove the excess via the urine.  The kidneys regulate metabolic acid-base balance.  Magnesium is alkaline.  Theoretically, if the body was alkalotic, the kidneys could excrete calcium, and magnesium ions to make the body's fluids more acidic.  According to Theodore Baroody, author of "Alkalize or Die", and Robert O. Young, author of several books on acid-base balance, being alkalotic only occurs in medical and nursing textbooks-not in real life.  Magnesium overdose, would create an alkalotic condition.  This rarely, if ever happens, according to these authorities.
Drugs on the other hand, are foreign chemicals that the cells of the body don't recognize. They are highly acidic.  Therefore, the body classifies them as poisons.  They are stored in fat cells, esp the liver.
The body can eliminate drugs, but it can take years in many instances for the body remove drug residue.  Sweating is one of the best ways, and this is the major reason why people have body odor, esp via the axillary region, and feet- because of the heavy metals and poisonous chemicals/drugs that are being excreted.  Since drug and chemical levels build up faster, because they are excreted slower, the liklihood of their causing injurious, and even lethal side effects is overwhelmingly greater than it is for a natural substance, such as magnesium chloride.
As far as Dr. Deardeaff going to sleep for two days, it goes to show that magnesium can relax you, since it stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system.  It relaxes and opens things up.  Apparantly, the citrate form can cause extreme relaxation as well as bowel evacuation.
Magnesium Massage is very relaxing.   Magnesium is argueably the most important mineral in the body, according to Marc Sircus, O.M.D., Ac.,"Trandermal Magnesium Therapy", and Carolyn Dean M.D., "The Magnesium Miracle".
According to Marc Sircus, "You will never hear a doctor diagnose a nutritional deficiency, and yet the majority of the world is officially suffering from such deficiencies...He also goes on to say, "Modern medicine is going to take a great fall like Humpty Dumpty on the great wall. Not only does the system not work, killing and poisoning more people than it helps (iatrogenic death and disease), we are just not going to be able to afford medical treatments in the near future."  Dr. Carolyn Dean stated "Magnesium is very important in health and medicine. It is extremely important for the metabolism of calcium, potassium, phosphorus, zinc, copper, iron, sodium, lead, cadmium, hydrochloric acid (HCl), acetylcholine, and nitric oxide. (NO), for many enzymes, for the intracellular homeostasis, activation of thiamine, and a very wide gamut of of critical body functions...it maintains normal muscle and nerve functions, keeps bones strong....regulates blood sugar levels, and promotes normal blood pressure.   It is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis."
According to Dr. Dean, "Magnesium deficiency is a significant factor-often the major factor in many severe illnesses including heart attacks, and other forms of heart disease, asthma, anxiety, and panic attacks, depression, fatigue, diabetes, migraines, and other headaches, osteoporosis, insomnia, and most cases of muscular problems."
Dr. Steven Johnson, M.D. states, "The range of pathologies associated with magnesium deficiency is staggering: hypertension, (cardiovascular disease, kidney, and liver damage, etc.), migraines, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, Alzheimer's Disease, recurrent bacterial infections of the sinuses, vagina, middle ear, lungs, throat, fungal infections related to a depressed immune system, behavioral disorders, premenstrual syndrome, calcium deficiency, tooth cavities, mood swings, muscle weakness, impotence, aggression, cardiac arrythymias, hypertension, some forms of cancer, iron accumulation, fibromas, potassium deficiency, and other conditions."
Dr. Jerry Aikawa, M.D. stated, "Magnesium is the most important mineral to man and all living organisms."
Dr. Sircus states Transdermal Magnesium, "Science is starting to realize magnesium's role as the number one preventative agent fro the major plagues of modern man."  He also goes onto say, regarding migraine headaches, "Not all headaches are produced by mineral imbalances, but we now know that 50-60% of migraines are magnesium linked."
Dr. Gary Young, N.D, has also stated that migraines have a basis in dehydration of the brain.  Thus increasing water and magnesium can help this condition.
Dr. Sarah Mayhill, M.D. of the Natl. Health Service of the U.K., stated, "Magnesium is necessary for the normal function of over 300 enzyme systems, for muscle relaxation, immune function, cardiac funtion, clotting, and nerve conduction. Indeed, I cannot think of a bodily dept. in which magnesium is not essential.  It prevents heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, kidney stones, and improves energy and sleep."
Dr. Carolyn Dean has stated, "Magnesium is so important for the removal of toxic substances from the body.  Its lack makes us even more vulnerable to food contamination.  She states that if you use aspartame and have a magnesium deficiency, this can result in headaches and migraines."
According to Dr. Sircus, you cannot detoxify any petrochemicals, or toxins, without adeqate levels of magnesium.   You also cannot attain adequate levels in your body by taking oral magnesium doses-even if you took 500 mg every day for five years.  The reason is, magnesium is very laxative, and is lost in the bowel evacuations it causes.  Transdermal Magnesium Chloride is the most effective method of magnesium delivery to the body.  You can learn more about this at the above websites.  I provide magnesium massage and it is even more relaxing than a regular massage.  Coupled with therapeutic grade essential oils, magnesium will go into your skin and give you many benefits.  The health benefits you receive may be just what you have been missing for a long time.
